Before you pick a platform: what to prepare
We have onboarded thousands of sites, and the ones that go live smoothly almost always do the same prep work first. Spending 30 minutes here saves a week of back-and-forth later.
1. Inventory the questions you already answer
Open your support inbox, your last month of live-chat transcripts, or your sales team's DMs. Pull out the 50 most common questions. You will notice roughly 40% of them repeat — shipping, refund windows, pricing tiers, integrations, setup. This is the set your chatbot needs to nail on day one.
2. Gather the content that already answers them

Step 1: Pick the right type of AI chatbot for your website
There are three categories on the market right now, and the differences matter. We get burned every week by teams who picked the wrong one.
Rule-based chatbots
Decision trees from 2016 with a facelift. They only answer questions whose wording matches a pattern you defined. Cheap, predictable, and terrible at handling anything novel. Skip these unless your use case is a one-page form wizard.
Generic LLM chatbots
